105 climate monitoring stations in the country, a growth of 13% in 4 years

The “Unified UAE Figures” report, issued during the “UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025,” revealed a noticeable increase in the number of stations monitoring climate elements spread across various regions of the country, as their number reached 105 stations during the year 2024, compared to 93 stations in 2020, a growth of 13%.
The report, a copy of which was seen by Emirates Today, explained that this increase reflects the state’s keenness to take proactive measures to address any climate change, pointing out that climate change in the UAE is likely to cause high temperatures, lack of rain, drought, and an increase in sea levels and storms, so the state has made confronting the repercussions of climate change a major goal for achieving sustainable development.
According to the data, stations monitoring climate elements are distributed according to type of location during the past year, with 80 land stations, 11 on islands, seven stations at airports, six mountain stations, and one coastal.
The report highlighted the most prominent climate data for last year, as the report monitored a large difference between the summer and winter seasons, as the highest temperature in the country was recorded in June (51.7 degrees Celsius), followed by July (50.8 degrees) and August (50.7 degrees), while it reached 48.9 degrees in May, 47.6 in September, 43.5 in October, 41.8 in April, 40.1 in November, and 39.1 in March, 37.9 degrees in February, 33.8 degrees in January, and 32.2 degrees in December.
As for the minimum temperatures, the lowest temperature was recorded in March at 2.3 degrees Celsius, followed by February (2.9 degrees), then December (4.3 degrees), January (5.3 degrees), November (7.0 degrees), April (7.2 degrees), May (11.1 degrees), October (12.8 degrees), September (18.1 degrees), August (18.7 degrees), and June (18.4 degrees), while July recorded the highest temperature. Lowest at 21.8 degrees Celsius.
Data on the average amount of rain recorded in the country showed that April was the heaviest, with an average of 102.0 mm, followed by February (26.8 mm) and May (23.0 mm). The average in March was 19.3 mm, in September 7.2 mm, in October 3.8 mm, August 3.8 mm, July 3.5 mm, and June. 3.2 mm, and December 1.7 mm, while January and November recorded the lowest average at 0.5 mm each.
At the level of the main meteorological stations, Fujairah Airport recorded the highest total rainfall during the past year at 420.66 millimetres, and recorded the highest number of rainy days at 35 days, followed by Al Ain Airport with an amount of 272.51 millimeters over 27 days, and Dubai Airport with an amount of 299.29 millimeters over 22 days.
Regarding other weather phenomena of thunderstorms and fog, Fujairah Airport and Al Ain Airport recorded the most days of thunderstorms with 16 days each, followed by Abu Dhabi Airport with 12 days, Dubai Airport with nine days, Sharjah Airport with eight days, and Ras Al Khaimah Airport with five days.
Regarding fog days, Ras Al Khaimah Airport recorded the largest number with 10 days, followed by Sharjah Airport with seven days, then Abu Dhabi and Al Ain airports with six days each, while Dubai Airport and Fujairah Airport did not record any fog days during the year 2024.
