The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority warns of calls impersonating government agencies

The Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TADRA) warned of the spread of some calls impersonating government agencies and aiming to obtain individuals’ data.

The authority stated through its official accounts on social media platforms that it is necessary for individuals to remember that government agencies do not request sensitive information over the phone or threaten to stop services.

She explained through an awareness video she broadcast of a real clip that includes an imitated voice claiming to represent the Authority, and aims to lure individuals, by claiming that illegal activities have been discovered on the registered communications number, and that the service will be suspended as a result.

The Authority added that to protect individuals’ personal data, it is important that when such fraudulent calls are received that impersonate government agencies, customers must hang up and block the calling number.
