"Tales from advanced China…an open meeting with Guan Hu" In the days of Cairo’s film industry
Today, Saturday, November 15, 2025, the outdoor theater at the Cairo Opera House will witness a lecture entitled “Tales from Developing China: An Open Meeting with Guan Hu,” from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The session is moderated by writer and translator Dr. Ahmed Al-Saeed, founder and president of the “House of Wisdom for Culture.”
This meeting is a unique opportunity to learn about the experience of the prominent Chinese director Guan Hu, one of the most prominent faces of the sixth generation of filmmakers in China. His films are distinguished by their treatment of the lives of ordinary and marginalized people, and reflect the rapid social transformations in contemporary China, through an elaborate blend of realism and human feeling.
Guan Hu has established his unique cinematic voice through his works and won the grand prize in the “What a Look” section. At the 77th Cannes International Film Festival, presenting a vision that combines humanity, intimacy and social awareness.
This session gives the audience a rare opportunity to discover his distinctive visual language and deep vision of human nature, while revealing the evolving aspects of China, as they have never been seen before, in a special meeting that highlights the contemporary Chinese cinematic experience.
