Resolved within one hour…the fastest lawsuit in Dubai

Director of the Dubai International Financial Center Courts, Judge Omar Al Muhairi, said that the Small Claims Court of the Dubai International Financial Center Courts recorded a remarkable example of timely justice, as it resolved the fastest lawsuit within one hour.

He added on the sidelines of the “International Court Management Conference 2025” that the lawsuit was a dispute over a defective mobile phone that a person had purchased from a store located in a shopping center. He discovered a defect in it, and when he checked the store, the employee told him that it was a manufacturing defect and not my fault, and offered to repair it.

He pointed out that the consumer resorted to court based on the fact that there was a contract between the two parties to deliver a product in exchange for a certain amount, and it turned out that the product was not compatible or defective. The judge offered them a settlement, which both parties agreed to, and the phone was replaced, and the ruling was documented within one hour.

He explained that there are cases in which settlements are proposed in one session, such as a dispute over a debt worth 100,000, for example. The judge proposes a settlement and installments of the amount. If both parties agree, a judicial ruling is issued that is directly enforceable. If the defendant fails to pay any of the installments, the ruling is executed directly against him without the need to register a new lawsuit.

He stated that the newly established mediation center in the courts of the Dubai International Financial Center would contribute to resolving disputes within a short period. One case was actually dealt with through the center and the settlement took place within just one month, turning into a directly enforceable ruling.
