Bin Touq: The Dubai Air Show strengthens the UAE’s position as a global hub for innovation
Dubai, November 17, 2017 – His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Civil Aviation Authority, stressed the increasing importance that the Dubai Airshow acquires year after year, and its role in consolidating its position as one of the most important global platforms for displaying future trends in the aviation, space, and defense sectors, and anticipating innovations that are reshaping the features of the global economy.
This came during His Excellency’s participation in the nineteenth edition of the Dubai Airshow 2025 World Central, under the slogan “The Future Starts from Here,” in the presence of an elite group of industry leaders, experts and decision-makers from various countries of the world.
He said that the civil aviation sector represents one of the basic pillars of the future economic growth of the UAE, as it contributes today directly and indirectly about 18% of the gross domestic product, and enhances the reputation and competitiveness of the national economy through national airlines, airports, shipping facilities, and value chains related to logistics, tourism, and services. The sector is expected to continue its growth supported by investment in the latest technologies and future fields such as advanced air transport, electric and hybrid aircraft, and sustainability systems.
His Excellency added that the exhibition, which this year hosts more than 1,500 exhibitors from 115 countries, constitutes an important opportunity to establish new partnerships, meet with international partners, and enhance cooperation in developing a more prosperous and advanced future for the aviation sector locally, regionally and internationally, as well as exchanging the latest global experiences and practices on innovative solutions and technologies that support the sustainability and competitiveness of this vital sector.
For his part, His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, stressed that the exhibition represents a strategic platform to enhance the UAE’s presence in the international aviation scene.
He said that the Authority seeks, through its participation this year, to enhance the competitiveness of the UAE aviation sector by signing new cooperation agreements and implementing joint initiatives with international partners, in addition to examining future opportunities in the fields of safety, air navigation, advanced air transport, innovation, and sustainability.
Al Suwaidi stressed that the UAE continues to consolidate its pivotal role in international organizations, especially the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), by supporting global initiatives to develop green aviation and reduce emissions, and adopting best practices in the legislative and regulatory field.
The General Civil Aviation Authority is participating in the Dubai Airshow 2025 with an extensive agenda of activities, including: signing a number of international cooperation agreements in the fields of civil aviation, air navigation and advanced air transport, and holding bilateral meetings with international delegations and international companies to discuss partnership opportunities, which contributes to consolidating the position of the UAE aviation sector regionally and globally. Authority officials also participate in specialized dialogue sessions within the exhibition’s activities, focusing on the future of advanced air transport, aviation safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability technologies.
The Authority also reviews on its platform a number of projects related to training and developing human cadres, as well as projects for transitioning towards advanced technological techniques, projects related to specialized fields in the air accident investigation sector, and the most prominent possible programs to enhance the capabilities of the aviation system in the country.
