The UAE and Germany organize a forum to enhance cooperation in the energy sector

Abu Dhabi, November 20 / WAM / The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action of the Federal Republic of Germany, organized the Emirati-German Energy Forum, within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries in the fields of energy and climate.
The forum, which was held in Abu Dhabi yesterday, witnessed broad participation from experts and specialists from both sides, who reviewed the latest trends related to future energy networks and applications of artificial intelligence in energy systems. The forum was held in conjunction with the visit of His Excellency Katharina Reiche, Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, to the UAE.
His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, stressed that the Emirati-German partnership represents a model of constructive international cooperation, and reflects the two countries’ commitment to developing innovative solutions that support the clean energy system and accelerate global climate action.
He said that since the launch of the Emirati-German energy partnership in 2017 and its expansion in 2022 to include cooperation on climate, cooperation between the two sides has witnessed remarkable progress in the fields of hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, renewable energy, network connectivity, and the removal of industrial emissions.
His Excellency added that the forum discusses two main axes that will form the basis of the energy sector during the next decade. The first is future energy networks, which will enhance the connectivity between Europe and the Gulf region through clean energy, hydrogen, and digital infrastructure, in line with the goals of the historic “UAE Agreement” to double energy efficiency and increase renewable energy capacity three times by 2030.
He explained that the second axis focuses on the role of artificial intelligence and innovation in developing energy systems, in light of the rapid growth of data centers relying on artificial intelligence and their high needs for energy, cooling, and operational flexibility.
He pointed out that the UAE continues to enhance its capabilities in solar energy, central cooling, hydrogen, and advanced battery storage, stressing that the combination of the UAE’s leadership in artificial intelligence technologies and German engineering expertise provides a strong basis for setting global standards for sustainable digital infrastructure.
His Excellency explained that the UAE attaches great importance to developing cooperation with Germany in the areas of hydrogen supply chains, sustainable aviation fuel, storage solutions, network flexibility, carbon markets and industrial emissions removal, energy efficiency and digital transformation, in addition to supporting emerging companies and the private sector.
He expressed his confidence that the forum’s outcomes will contribute to developing new practical steps that enhance this cooperation and support the momentum achieved after the results of “COP30” towards a more sustainable energy future.
