Russian diplomat: Moscow is ready to resume dialogue with Washington to reduce nuclear weapons

Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, said that Russia is ready to resume dialogue with the United States on reducing nuclear weapons if appropriate conditions are created.
The Russian diplomat added – in statements reported by the Russian TASS news agency on Thursday – T: “Russia is ready to resume dialogue with the United States on reducing nuclear weapons if appropriate conditions are created, and to create conditions for such a dialogue, Russia has declared its readiness to continue the commitment.” “This measure will only be applicable if the United States acts in a compatible manner and does not resort to measures that undermine the balance of existing deterrence capabilities,” Gatilov added: “We believe that this issue will be on the agenda of the session.” The next Conference on Disarmament, scheduled for January 2026.
It is noteworthy that the New START Treaty was signed between the United States of America and the Russian Federation on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive weapons (New START Treaty) in 2010, and entered into force on February 5, 2011. 7 years after entry into force, each Party’s total possession of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) and strategic bombers must be no more than 700 ICBMs deployed, plus no more than 1,550 warheads on ICBMs and SLBMs (SLBM) and strategic bombers, and a total of 800 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers, submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) launchers and strategic launchers, deployed and non-deployed.
The treaty was signed for a period of 10 years, until February 5, 2021, with the possibility of extending it again by mutual consent between Both parties.
