Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in China on Tuesday for a two-day visit during which the two countries will coordinate their positions on the international issues currently at hand, according to Beijing.

Taiwan and the South China Sea

The Russian news agency reported (TASS) Lavrov said during his talks in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Tuesday: "Concerning the eastern part of the Eurasian continent, very dangerous games are also taking place"
He added: "Whether it is the issue of Taiwan, the South China Sea, or even the Korean Peninsula, tensions are being stoked in a space that for many years was an area of ​​cooperation and good neighborliness."
China considers Taiwan an integral part of its territory, and strongly opposes multiple US arms sales to the island, which it believes undermines its sovereignty.
Also, relations between Beijing and Tokyo, a close ally of Washington, deteriorated in the fall, after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi hinted that her country might intervene militarily if Taiwan was subjected to a Chinese attack.

And in the South China Sea, there is an acute dispute over a number of islands. The small country between China and the Philippines, which maintains close military relations with the United States.

Containing China and Russia

Lavrov said "They are trying to dismantle this cooperative space in Asia by creating small-scale, cluster-based structures aimed at containing China and Russia."without explicitly specifying who he meant.
He indicated that he would discuss with Wang Yi future contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
A statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Wang and Lavrov "They held in-depth talks on the US-Iran conflict, the situation in the Asia-Pacific and the Ukrainian crisis, as well as other issues, without providing further details.
Wang said that the two sides are coordinating together and supporting each other in the international arena, proving to the whole world that the straight path remains intact in the face of adversity, and that changes bring with them greater responsibilities.
Lavrov and Wang also coordinated preparations for a meeting between their heads of state within the year, according to a statement. Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
