The Foreign Minister meets his Canadian counterpart on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg

He met Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, on Sunday, November 23, with “Anita Anand” Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings held in Johannesburg.
Abdel Aty stressed Egypt’s pride in the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Canada, pointing to Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries, and to encourage Canadian companies to invest in Egypt, especially in the energy, agriculture and water resources sectors. Minister Abdel-Aty reviewed the measures and steps taken by the Egyptian government in recent years to support the private sector and create the business environment, stressing the importance of building on what was achieved during the twelfth round of political consultations between the two countries, which witnessed the visit of a delegation of Egyptian businessmen to Ottawa last April.
At the regional level, Abdel-Aty reviewed the elements of the Egyptian position regarding developments in the situation in Gaza, stressing the continuation of Egyptian efforts to stabilize the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, and cooperation with the United States and all partners to move forward. Moving forward with the implementation of the second phase of the agreement to reach a sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution. He also renewed the invitation to the Canadian Minister to participate in the Gaza Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference, praising Canada’s recognition of the Palestinian state last September.
