Vienna, November 27, 2017 – The OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC Fund) has agreed to provide a loan worth $30 million and a grant worth $2 million to support Sierra Leone’s program to improve food security, develop livestock, and support development and rural livelihoods.

In the statement issued by his headquarters in the Austrian capital, Vienna, Dr. Abdul Hamid Al Khalifa, Director General of the OPEC Fund, welcomed the strengthening of his established partnership with Sierra Leone by supporting the comprehensive program to promote growth capable of adapting to climate change, through investment in livestock systems, rural projects, and clean cooking solutions, which contribute to creating job opportunities and empowering women and youth, while supporting the country’s long-term development priorities.

The Fund explained in the statement that the program aims to support food security and improve livestock production by developing animal health and vaccination services, market infrastructure, providing training for small and micro-livestock projects, expanding the scope of climate change-resistant agriculture in eight provinces, and providing clean cooking solutions to reduce deforestation and health risks, pointing out that more than 370,000 people have benefited.
