After being accused of insulting a businessman… Radwa El-Sherbiny loses the appeal

Today, Thursday, an Egyptian court ruled to uphold the initial ruling issued against the Egyptian journalist Radwa El-Sherbiny, and to reject her appeal. She was fined 5,000 pounds in a case in which she was accused of defaming a businessman after hosting his wife on her previous program, “She and Bas,” on CBC.

The case goes back to an episode in which the wife of businessman Adel Akl’s son appeared on El-Sherbiny’s program before she later moved to the DMC channel, where the plaintiff’s agent, lawyer Ahmed Sami Khalaf, considered that the episode included direct abuse of his client by describing him in terms that had nothing to do with the truth, as he put it.

The lawsuit stated that the family dispute between the businessman’s son and his wife developed into several legal disputes, and that what was stated in the episode contributed to distorting the image of his client and creating incorrect impressions among the public. Therefore, the lawyer requested that the “She and Bes” program on CBC be stopped at the time, and that Radwa El-Sherbiny be banned from engaging in media activity on any media outlet, in addition to obliging the owner channel to implement the ruling immediately without the need for a new announcement.

By confirming the fine ruling today, the court has closed the appeal process and kept the first decision as it was issued.
