Pakistan: Ceasefire with Afghanistan “may not hold”

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman, Tahir Andarabi, said today, Friday, that the ceasefire with Afghanistan “may not hold,” pointing to the continuation of attacks launched by armed groups in Pakistan.

In his speech during his weekly press conference, as reported by the “Genews” network, Pakistani News Today, Tahir Andrabi pointed out that “the ceasefire between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime was aimed at preventing terrorist attacks inside Pakistan and did not serve as a traditional ceasefire.”

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman added: “Major terrorist attacks occurred even after this ceasefire.” In this sense, the ceasefire may not hold, because it was aimed at stopping terrorist attacks inside Pakistan by the Pakistani Taliban, the Kharijite sedition, and Afghan citizens using Afghan lands.

Andarabi continued that Islamabad “was not very optimistic about the ceasefire in the wake of recent terrorist events in parts of the country, including the federal capital.”
