German Interior Ministry: 71 Afghan asylum seekers arrive

The German Interior Ministry confirmed today, Friday, that 71 Afghan asylum seekers arrived by air from the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, as part of a federal program to receive Afghans.

This is the tenth flight of its kind carrying Afghans to Germany since Friedrich Merz took office in May, despite his previous pledge to tighten restrictions on immigration.

Although all the arrivals obtained initial government approval allowing them to enter Germany, 63 of them have not yet obtained final approval to stay, and the ministry explained that all of them underwent security checks and completed the necessary papers. For travel.

About 1,900 Afghans hope to enter Germany through various federal programs, including individuals who worked for German institutions in Afghanistan before the Taliban returned to power, in addition to their family members.

Germany has also opened its doors to people it considers threatened under Taliban rule, such as human rights lawyers and journalists.

These Afghans are awaiting their flights from Pakistan because of the dangers they face in their country, while Islamabad has granted Germany has until the end of the year to complete the transfer process, before it begins deporting Afghans on its territory, according to statements by the Pakistani authorities.
