Saudi Arabia’s exports of phosphate fertilizers will rise to 5.7 million tons in 2024


Statistics issued by the Statistics Authority showed that Saudi exports of phosphate fertilizers increased during the year 2024 to 5.7 million tons, compared to 5.4 million tons in the previous year, recording a growth of 4.6%.

The General Authority for Statistics issued today, a bulletin "Mineral wealth statistics 2024 AD"which reviewed the latest developments in the mining and metals sector in the Kingdom.

Phosphate fertilizer imports

On the other hand, phosphate fertilizer imports recorded 66.2 thousand tons during the year 2024 AD, a decrease of 51.7% compared to what they were in 2023 AD.

The bulletin reported that the total number of mineralization sites discovered in the Kingdom amounted to 5,651

Non-metallic minerals

The bulletin indicated that non-metallic minerals accounted for the largest percentage, about 54.1%, with 3,058 sites, followed by metallic minerals, with 42.9%, representing 2,423 sites, while the percentage of sites containing both metallic and non-metallic minerals reached 3.0%, with 170 sites.

It showed that The number of mining licenses issued increased from 1,985 licenses in 2016 to 2,401 licenses in 2024, recording a cumulative growth of 21% during the period 2016-2024. 642 licenses, then exploitation licenses that include building materials, mining, and mines, with 215 licenses, while the number of exploration licenses reached 41 licenses, and licenses for surplus mineral ores reached 22 licenses.

With regard to foreign trade in minerals, the bulletin showed that aluminum exports amounted to 283 thousand tons, constituting 62.9% of the total aluminum trade movement, compared to imports that amounted to 167 thousand tons. 37.1%.

Exports of lead metal recorded about 59 thousand tons, equivalent to 93.7% of its total trade movement, while imports amounted to about 4 thousand tons, representing 6.3%.

With regard to zinc metal, its trade relied almost entirely on imports, which amounted to 88 thousand tons, representing more than 99.9%, while its exports did not exceed 6 tons. As for nickel metal, it Its commercial movement was limited to imports only, amounting to 407 tons, at a rate of 100%.

It is noteworthy that the Mineral Resources Statistics Bulletin for the year 2024 AD is the first publication launched by the General Authority for Statistics in this field, as its data covers the number of discovered mineral sites, mining licenses issued, and exports and imports of metals and their products based on data from the General Authority for Statistics, in addition to record data from the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, And the National Geological Information Base of the Saudi Geological Survey, within a time series for the period (2021 – 2024).
