Senegal struggles to prevent an oil spill after a tanker took on water off Dakar

The Ports Authority in the Senegalese capital announced today that the authorities are racing against time to prevent Possible oil leak after water entered an engine room An oil tanker flying the Panama flag near the coast of Dakar.
The Ports Authority said in a statement: "The incident that led to the ship issuing a distress signal occurred during the night between November 27 and 28, which required sending tugs and specialized teams from the Senegalese Navy and the Maritime Authority, indicating that all crew members were rescued safely without any injuries reported."
She added "Authorities are working to stabilize the ship, prevent hydrocarbon leakage and mitigate environmental risks"The immediate measures included stopping the leak, transporting the fuel load, and deploying a floating barrier to prevent pollution around the tanker as a precautionary step.
