Cairo International Short Film Festival honors director Marwan Hamed
The Cairo International Short Film Festival, in its seventh session, announced the honoring of two of the most prominent artistic icons in Egypt and the Arab world, the great director Marwan Hamed and the distinguished musician Rajeh Daoud, as the festival gives them the Golden Tower Award in recognition of their long career and influential contributions to the film and soundtrack industry.
The honoring ceremony will be held during the opening on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Cairo Opera House Theater, in a celebration that confirms the festival’s status as a prominent platform for honoring creators who contributed to shaping the artistic conscience and developing the language of cinema.
An introductory film will be shown during the opening ceremony, highlighting the journey of the honorees and their most prominent works, in addition to revealing the activities of the new session, which extends until 21 December, which includes screenings of a wide range of short films from various countries of the world, in addition to seminars and workshops aimed at supporting young creators, as well as the launch of the Cairo Film Platform for the first time. Once.
The festival management explained that the seventh session comes as a continuation of the festival’s efforts to support the short film industry, which is witnessing increasing interest from filmmakers and the public, stressing that the festival seeks to create a fertile space for young talents to present their works to a wide audience and specialized critics, in a way that enhances the development of their skills and expands their circle of spread.
The festival continues its role in discovering new cinematic voices and highlighting innovative experiences worthy of celebration and support, hoping that this session will reflect cultural and artistic diversity that will enhance the presence of the short film as an independent art capable of expression boldly and creatively, and establish Cairo’s position as one of the most prominent capitals supporting this industry in the region.
The festival is headed by director Waheed Sobhi, and artist and critic Ahmed El Nabawy holds the position of festival director, while journalist Tamer Bagato holds the position of executive director, in addition to general supervision of the Cairo Film Platform in its first edition, which is assigned to film critic Ahmed El-Messiri.
