"root".. An initiative to transform palm waste into handicraft products in Al-Ahsa


Launch The National Center for Palms and Dates, the qualitative “Roots” initiative, which aims to establish an innovative economic model based on transforming Agricultural leftovers of palm trees into craft products of high market and cultural value, instead of disposing of them as waste.

The initiative recently launched by the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli on the sidelines of the International Dates Exhibition in Riyadh according to a strategic vision to transform wasted palm waste into raw materials for creative industries, which contributes to enhancing the concept of the circular economy and protecting the environment, in addition to preserving the cultural heritage of handicrafts associated with palm trees and developing them to suit modern markets.

The Heritage Authority participates as a strategic partner in “Judooor” to ensure the quality of the outputs, as the Director of the Authority’s branch in Al-Ahsa, Muhammad Al-Matroudi, confirmed that the Authority will provide technical support. And the consultant to develop product designs in accordance with authentic heritage patterns, while setting technical standards that guarantee the excellence and professionalism of the products."Muhammad

A market for palm products

The initiative’s implementation mechanism depends on two main tracks. The first begins with the “nucleus” phase, which focuses on establishing and proving economic feasibility by training and qualifying craftsmen in the “House of Craftsmen” in Al-Ahsa, to ensure the transfer of knowledge and skill according to the highest technical levels.

Work in the second track of the “Roots” initiative moves towards expansion and sustainable growth, aiming to establish a specialized production unit operating with commercial operational capacity, to ensure continuity of supply. And creating a permanent market for innovative palm products with a heritage character.

Handicrafts Sector

The National Center for Palms and Dates provides the necessary funding and support for the initiative, which was designed to be in line with national strategies in maximizing the use of natural resources, reducing the environmental impact of agricultural waste, and creating new and sustainable job opportunities in the handicrafts sector.
