Geneva, 3 December / WAM / The United Arab Emirates announced today the allocation of US$15 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in support of the humanitarian response in Sudan and neighboring countries, during the UNHCR’s pledging conference to launch the 2026 Global Humanitarian Appeal.

This support comes within the framework of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to support communities affected by conflicts and instability.

His Excellency Jamal Al Musharrakh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, affirmed the UAE’s firm commitment to supporting refugees and internally displaced people around the world.

He pointed out that the world is witnessing unprecedented levels of displacement as a result of conflicts, persecution, and challenges related to climate change, stressing the importance of strengthening collective action based on solidarity and shared responsibility.

His Excellency highlighted the severe and ongoing humanitarian crises in South Sudan, Sudan, the Sahel region, Myanmar and Ukraine, which continue to push large numbers of families into displacement within their countries and across borders.

He also noted that internal displacement continues to worsen in regions such as the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa, where climate pressures and violence are increasing humanitarian needs.

He stressed the fragility of the situation of women, children and the most vulnerable groups, who face increasing protection challenges that require targeted intervention.

His Excellency affirmed the UAE’s commitment to providing principled humanitarian aid, through the Emirates Agency for International Aid and in close coordination with UNHCR and its partners, which contributes to supporting host communities and ensuring that displaced persons and refugees have access to basic services. “Refugees and displaced people are individuals with dignity and have the right to live in safety and hope,” he said.

He also stressed that predictive financing and fair burden-sharing are essential to ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those who need it in a safe, sustainable and unhindered manner.

Through the UAE’s pledge of $15 million, the country aims to strengthen protection and assistance programs for those affected by the crisis in Sudan and neighboring countries, and to contribute to enhancing stability and resilience in the long term.

This aid also comes within the framework of the UAE’s firm and permanent commitment to support the efforts made to address this catastrophic crisis, and to work collectively with regional and international partners, especially with its partners in Africa, to ensure the achievement of stability and sustainable development for the brotherly Sudanese people, which confirms the values of human solidarity established by the UAE’s leadership and people.

The UAE continues its humanitarian efforts in support of the Sudanese brothers, as relief and humanitarian aid has reached 784 million US dollars since the outbreak of the conflict in 2023, as it is the second country after the United States in providing aid to Sudan since the beginning of the conflict, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and the value of the aid provided by the state to the Sudanese people between the years 2015-2025 exceeded 4.24 billion US dollars.
