The Somali Minister of Justice calls for strengthening cooperation in the field of international humanitarian law

The Minister of State for Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Elias Sheikh Omar Abu Bakr, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Arab countries in the field of international humanitarian law as it is an urgent necessity in light of the rapid developments in war technology, artificial intelligence and cyber warfare, indicating that Somalia is committed to joint Arab action to promote justice and human protection in the Arab world.
This came in statements by the Somali Minister of Justice to reporters at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo following his participation. At the 13th Arab meeting of the national committees for international law and humanitarian work held in Cairo, where he reviewed his country’s efforts in strengthening the justice system and building a state of institutions.
The Somali Minister of Justice expressed his country’s deep appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt for hosting and organizing the meeting, stressing that Cairo remains a leading center in Arab legal and humanitarian work, praising the role of Counselor Adnan Fanjiri, Minister of Justice, and his efforts to support Arab countries and develop their judicial capabilities, including Programs to raise the efficiency of justice sector cadres in Somalia.
He explained that Somalia is going through an important transformation phase entitled “From Pain to Hope,” stressing that the justice sector has witnessed extensive reforms that included modernizing legislation, developing the system for combating money laundering and terrorist financing, issuing the Children’s Rights Law, reforming prison conditions and rebuilding judicial structures in accordance with Somalia’s international obligations.
He stressed that his country – despite its continuing battle against terrorism – places priority on the protection of civilians. Respecting international humanitarian law is a top priority, stressing that humanity is the first and last goal in all government policies.
