The European Gulf Conference on Interventional Cardiology concludes its 15th edition in Dubai

Dubai, December 11, 2017 – The fifteenth edition of the Gulf-European Conference on Interventional Cardiology (GulfPCR-GIM) was concluded in Dubai today, in which more than 1,200 cardiologists, catheterists, and professional practitioners from the region and the world participated, and about 200 lecturers from elite experts and specialists from 82 countries.

This two-day event is the largest of its kind in the Arabian Gulf and the Middle East region in the specialty of interventional cardiology.

Professor Jean Fajadet, President of the European Catheterization Conference (PCR), and one of the founders of the Paris EuroPCR Conference, pointed out in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the conference today, that the importance of this event lies in its focus on education in one of the most important medical specialties, which is the specialty of interventional cardiology to treat patients with coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease. He expressed his pride in organizing this scientific conference again in Dubai and on the 15th anniversary of its holding.

He said that providing advanced training to the medical community is necessary, especially through high-quality hybrid education, given the continuous development in this field and the modern devices and technologies it witnesses annually, and innovative treatment methods, all of which aim to improve patient care and raise the quality of therapeutic outcomes.

He added: The importance of continuing to hold such medical forums comes from the opportunities it gives cardiologists to acquire new skills, learn about advanced techniques, and participate in practical workshops, which ensures that what they learn is transferred to their daily practice and thus improves the quality of treatment provided to patients.

For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Rashdan, Consultant Cardiologist and Catheterologist, Chairman of the Conference, explained that the city of Dubai was chosen to hold this scientific conference due to its global level in attracting major conferences and ease of access to them, pointing out that the conference focused on continuing education to enhance the expertise of the participating cardiologists and catheterists and improve the quality of therapeutic services provided to patients.

He pointed out that the most prominent sessions of the conference included a live broadcast via satellite of six complex cases for the treatment of arteries and heart valves, from four prestigious medical centers in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, with the participation of male and female doctors specializing in this vital field, noting that during the years preceding this event, live and advanced heart surgeries had been transmitted from the UAE, Kuwait and other countries in the region.

Dr. Al-Rashdan stressed that the Arab Gulf countries have an advanced level in the field of using advanced medical technologies to treat heart and arterial diseases, and include highly qualified medical practitioners who are graduates of the most prominent major universities, and who have experience and a level no less than their counterparts in Europe or America.

The conference witnessed a number of joint sessions that brought together experts from various countries, which enhanced the exchange of knowledge and advanced clinical experiences among the participants, and consolidated its position as a high-level international scientific forum.

The conference also highlighted the GulfWIN initiative, which aims to support and empower Gulf female doctors working in the field of interventional catheterization and cardiology in women, by providing a specialized scientific space that enhances their presence and participation in the various conference activities, and highlights their distinguished contributions in this vital specialty.

In conjunction with the conference, an international medical exhibition was held in which more than 20 international medical companies participated, during which the latest innovations, therapeutic and diagnostic devices and technologies in the field of heart diseases were reviewed, which enhanced communication opportunities between medical technology providers and health practitioners in the region.
