Trump stops the immigration lottery

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump suspended the Green Card Lottery program that allowed the suspect in the shooting incidents at Brown University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to enter the United States.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a blog post on her account on the “X” platform that, based on Trump’s directives, she orders US Citizenship and Immigration Services to temporarily stop the program.
The Diversity Visa Program provides up to 50,000 green cards each year through a lottery to people from countries with little representation in the United States.
Nearly 20 million people applied for the 2025 visa lottery, and more than 131,000 people were selected when counting pairs with the winners.
After winning, they must undergo a screening process in order to obtain entry into the United States.
