Syrian industrialists: Syria needs an opportunity to return to its former glory in the field of industry and the economy

This is the way to breathe new life into the Syrian economy, according to Syrian industrialists, including Hassan Daaboul, a member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus and its Countryside Chamber of Industry, and the director of one of the companies specialized in the aluminum and glass industry in the country.
The ideal place to present his vision and explore investment opportunities, partnerships, and the return of Syrian industry to the international community was the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which was held in November 2025.
Daaboul told us during his participation in the conference that: “There are many factories in Syria, but they operate with weak efficiency due to many obstacles, including the prices of energy carriers.”.

The need for partnerships and cooperation
A report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) published in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) showed in early 2025 that the country’s gross domestic product had declined by 64% since the start of the conflict in 2011. The consumer inflation rate had risen to 40% in 2024.
In the midst of this difficult economic environment, the Syrian industrial and business community did not stop working despite everything, according to Daboul.
The Syrian industrialist said: “The Syrian businessman is present on the ground. He knows the Syrian environment and the market. During 14 years there was a depletion of financial resources, and therefore, there is a need for partnerships and cooperation with donors, investors, investment companies or investment funds.”.
Daboul stressed that this enables Syrian industrialists to… “Return and create new companies and industries, and most importantly, job opportunities.”.
Back from the rubble
While all areas in Syria are shaking off the dust of war and its consequences, there are those who have already begun to return, build, and manage the wheel of industrialization, including Ghassan Al-Kasem, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Damascus and its Countryside Chamber of Industry, and owner of an engineering industries group, which produces household and electrical appliances.
Al-Kasim confirmed that “Despite the complete destruction” The company’s laboratories were exposed to it in 2013, but they were able to rebuild it from the rubble using the destroyed materials, so that the laboratories would return to full operation by 2020.
The Syrian industrialist said: “Our goal was to preserve the workforce and technical skills we have, and to preserve the Syrian industrial house and not go out of business.”.

Great return on investment
Syria suffered from very difficult conditions, great destruction, and the lack of any support for industry or decisions supporting the industry, as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Damascus and Rural Chamber of Industry told us.
He confirmed that “What we only want now is to return to the international community, and for Syria to be given the opportunity it deserves, to return to its former glory in the field of industry and in the field of economy, and for us to be partners together in rebuilding the region.”.
In turn, Syrian industrialist Hassan Daboul said: “The return on investment in Syria is very large.”He called on investors and investment funds to come to Syria and confirm for themselves this matter, and what investment in the country will be like “Very useful”.
What Syrians and Syrian cadres, whether inside or outside the country, ultimately need “It is an opportunity, and nothing more.”As industrialist Ghassan Al-Kasem confirmed to us.
