$235 billion in proceeds from “customs duties” since January

The White House stated that the US Treasury has collected $235 billion in customs duties since the beginning of this year.
This claim came from the White House during a live Christmas broadcast on its official YouTube channel, where it displayed a list of “MAGA 2025 victories.”
It also highlighted other supposed successes of US President Donald Trump’s administration, such as immigration policy and combating the fentanyl crisis.
The value of customs revenues announced on the live broadcast is slightly higher than the amount previously mentioned by the Trump administration.
The US Customs and Border Protection reported last week that customs revenues collected between Trump’s inauguration on January 20 and December 15 amounted to slightly more than $200 billion.
However, the total remains below expectations; Last July, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent expected to reach $300 billion by the end of the year.
The US Supreme Court is currently reviewing the legality of the tariffs imposed by Trump.
Specifically, the court is examining whether Trump can unilaterally impose tariffs under the 1977 emergency law without congressional approval.
Lower courts had suspended this policy after complaints from several American companies and states.
After taking office, Trump imposed tariffs on goods from multiple countries, citing concerns about drugs such as fentanyl, illegal immigration, and the trade deficit.
It is not yet clear when the Supreme Court will issue a decision, and if it rules against Trump, it could put existing trade agreements into question.
