China imposes tariffs on European dairy products

China announced yesterday that it will impose temporary duties on “some dairy products” imported from the European Union.

The duties, which range between 21.9 and 42.7%, will come into effect today, and affect a group of products, including fresh and processed cheeses, some types of milk, cream, and others, according to what the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced.

In August 2024, China opened an anti-subsidy investigation at the request of the China Dairy Association.

For his part, European Commission spokesman Olof Gille said: “This investigation is based on questionable allegations and insufficient evidence, and therefore the measures are unjustified and baseless.”
