"Dubai Culture" Program concludes "Emirati Chefs Scholarship" Its second version is launched

Dubai, December 26 / WAM / The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority concluded the first edition of the “Emirati Chefs Scholarship” program, which it organizes in cooperation with the International Center for Culinary Arts in Dubai (ICCA Dubai), with the aim of highlighting qualified Emirati and ambitious talents in the field of culinary arts and food culture, and enabling them to develop their skills and hone their expertise in this field.

The program, which takes about 3 months, comes in the context of Dubai Culture’s efforts aimed at introducing the authentic local culture and its warm hospitality, and enhancing the presence of Emirati cuisine on the global map.

The first edition of the program, which deals with a group of main topics specialized in the culinary arts, saw 6 Emirati chefs – Noura Al Awadhi, Alia Al Ali, Asayel Al Marzouqi, Rashid Al Nuaimi, Hoda Al Ghafli, and Maitha Al Ghafli – being awarded a diploma in culinary arts, after passing a series of training workshops supervised by an elite group of experts from the International Center for Culinary Arts in Dubai, during which they learned about basic and advanced cooking techniques, and cooking methods. Prepare a variety of appetizers, main courses, baked goods and desserts using the latest equipment and innovative menu preparation methods.

Participants in the workshops learned about the rules of hospitality etiquette and different methods of serving food, the importance of maintaining food safety, types of healthy foods and diets, cost calculations, planning and preparation methods, in addition to knowing the mechanisms of managing and operating kitchen operations in restaurants, and others.

The authority announced the second edition of the program, which was launched last November, with the participation of ten Emirati female chefs, namely Aisha Al Khouri, Ohood Walid Al Zarouni, Hamda Adel Al Khouri, Hind Muhammad Al Mulla, Khawla Omar Al Ghafli, Mira Jassim Al Zaabi, Naima Al Mulla, Salwa Salim Al Ali, Aisha Khoury, and Shatha Al Hosani, to enable them to obtain a diploma in culinary arts.

Shaima Rashid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, pointed out that the “Emirati Chefs Scholarship” contributes to giving chefs the opportunity to develop their abilities and capabilities in developing a variety of foods that blend Arab, Emirati and international flavors, and presenting their original and innovative dishes to various segments of society.

Through this grant, the Authority seeks to provide a unique platform capable of supporting creative chefs, opening horizons for them, urging them to unleash their innovative ideas and projects, and enabling them to identify new ideas that enrich their experiences and encourage them to continue their careers in the field of culinary arts and food culture, which contributes to supporting the strength of the cultural and creative industries in Dubai.

She added that food constitutes an important part of our authentic culture, as through it local talents express the richness of Emirati cuisine and contribute to highlighting our societal identity and the distinctiveness of our customs and traditions, which is embodied in dishes that reflect the authenticity and generosity of the local community.

Sonja Raja, Director and CEO – International Center for Culinary Arts in Dubai (ICCA Dubai), expressed his pride in training a new generation of Emirati chefs and honing their skills, while maintaining their connection to their cultural identity and legacy in the culinary arts.
