Nur Mammadov: Retirement is a final decision and my focus now is on training and building champions

Dubai, December 30 / WAM / Mixed martial arts legend Habib Nurmagomedov confirmed that his decision to retire from competition was final and clear from the beginning, stressing that he is not thinking about returning to the ring despite his sometimes longing for the atmosphere of a fight, explaining that fighting is part of his formation, but he is currently content with training and being in the gym.

Nurmagomedov said, during his participation in the activities of the second day of the “World Sports Summit” in Dubai, that the difference between life inside and outside the ring is great, indicating that he prefers fighting fights to training work, because the role of the coach is limited to directing verbally without the ability to use the body and hands as happens in fighting.

He explained that the nature of the relationships between fighters differs from other sports, indicating that friendliness remains limited between competitors because they actually face each other inside the ring, unlike football, which he described as a different sport, pointing out that in his childhood he dreamed of becoming a football player, before he entered the field of martial arts, which he loved under the influence of his father.

Regarding his training experience, Nurmagomedov indicated that he works in complete understanding with coach Javier Mendez, stressing that discipline is an essential element within the training hall, and that there is no room for individual efforts in implementing instructions, because everyone knows what is required of him, explaining that he pushes his fighters to the maximum limits of their ability, and feels proud of the level that his team has reached.

He revealed that his team will participate with seven fighters in global fights to be held next February 7 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, which is an experience he is experiencing for the first time as a coach, stressing that the coach is required to give his full energy to the fighters inside the ring, and provide guidance with the required positive mental focus.

Speaking about leadership, Nurmagomedov confirmed that his father was his first source of inspiration, as he learned from him the foundations of leading teams and building championships. He pointed out that the titles he achieved during his career were due in large part to his father’s guidance, pointing out that today, at the age of thirty-eight, his vision has become clearer after passing through all the stages of professionalism.

He stressed that he now feels ready to fully assume the responsibility of leadership after his father’s passing, stressing the importance of investing in others and sharing knowledge, energy and experiences, expressing his desire for those around him to be better than him, which is the approach he learned from his father.
