The World Customs Organization praises, in a three-language report, the “e-commerce platform”

The World Customs Organization, in a special report in three languages: French, English and Spanish, praised the cross-border e-commerce platform, the innovative project of Dubai Customs, stressing that this experience represents a global model in customs digital transformation, and a success story that proves that innovation in customs services and border control is achievable with effective policies, solid partnerships and advanced technology.
This international interest comes at a time when the e-commerce and logistics sector in the United Arab Emirates is witnessing a major investment boom, in addition to the provision of tens of thousands of new jobs in the fields of shipping, warehousing, implementation and final delivery, in line with the vision of the wise leadership to enhance economic growth opportunities.
The volumes of goods transported by sea and air in the Emirate of Dubai have recorded remarkable growth, achieving Dubai’s “D33” vision of becoming a global center for economic expansion driven by logistics and digital trade.
Juma Al Ghaith, Advisor to the Director General and Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Customs, stressed that the WCO’s praise reflects the depth of the transformation led by Dubai Customs in the world of trade and e-commerce, and embodies the vision of the wise leadership to make Dubai the city of the future and a global center for the new economy.
He said that Dubai Customs works according to a comprehensive vision that anticipates the future and places innovation at the forefront of government work priorities, and that it has turned into a global model in customs digitization, pointing out that its smart platform for e-commerce that adopts blockchain technologies has become an international reference for cross-border trade solutions, and that the international praise from the World Customs Organization is not just an honor, but rather a confirmation that Dubai today has a digital platform capable of leading the future of e-commerce and enhancing the competitiveness of its digital economy.
For his part, Executive Director of the Customs Development Sector at Dubai Customs, Atiq Al Muhairi, said that the Dubai Customs e-commerce platform represents a qualitative leap and a new standard in facilitating the movement of trade across borders, by enhancing the link between government agencies and shipping companies, and enabling companies to comply easily and quickly with customs requirements, in addition to harmonizing the logistics services system and the e-commerce movement, and providing continuous support for digital trade through big data analysis tools based on artificial intelligence techniques.
He added that the experience shows, according to the World Customs Organization report, that the platform has become an important model worldwide in how to employ technology to facilitate legitimate trade and stimulate investment, and that the future map of the platform includes expanding the scope of global partnerships with major leading e-commerce platforms, which means that the platform will not only remain a tool for facilitating trade, but will become part of the structure of Dubai’s future economy.
The data showed strong results, as the total size of the e-commerce market in the UAE reached 32.3 billion dirhams ($8.8 billion) during 2024, with expectations that its value will reach more than 50.6 billion dirhams ($13.8 billion) by 2029.
Dubai Customs aims to shift 20% to 30% of all low-value mail shipments carrying e-commerce goods to the platform, and has ensured, through the cooperation of multinational express freight companies and SMEs, that all parties benefit from advanced trade facilities.
The scope of the platform also extends regionally, supporting e-commerce paths in the Gulf Cooperation Council, which is in line with the “D33” agenda, which aspires to double the size of Dubai’s economy within ten years, strengthen its position among the top three economic cities in the world, and support its plan to become among the top 5 global centers for logistics services.
