The United Nations adopts a 2026 budget worth $3.45 billion

New York, December 31 / WAM / The United Nations General Assembly approved its regular budget for 2026, worth $3.45 billion, in a pivotal step within the “UN80” structural reform initiative, which included responding to the Secretary-General’s proposal to reduce financial resources by 15% and reduce jobs by about 19%.
The new budget will cover the basic pillars of the organization’s work, most notably international peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights.
In his statement to the members of the General Assembly following the adoption of the regular budget, the United Nations Comptroller, Chandra Muli Ramanathan, confirmed that reaching this unanimous agreement came after complex negotiations and in record time, warning at the same time that the greatest challenge lies in the next implementation phase, and called on member states to commit to paying their contributions on the specified dates to ensure the progress of work.
