A strong earthquake forces the President of Mexico to evacuate her palace during a press conference

President Claudia Sheinbaum was forced to evacuate the presidential palace during her regular morning press conference when earthquake sirens were heard.

She returned with the journalists who were present minutes later, and Sheinbaum said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 15 kilometers from San Marcos in the southern state of Guerrero, that is, about 230 kilometers from Mexico City.
She stated. Sheinbaum said that initial reports indicate no major damage in Mexico or Guerrero.
The US Geological Survey reported that the quake struck at 13:58 GMT (7:58 local time).

The center of Mexico is built on muddy ground that was once the bottom of a lake, making it particularly vulnerable to earthquakes.
The most powerful ones are usually located off the state of Guerrero on the Pacific coast.
On September 19, 1985, an 8.1-magnitude earthquake destroyed a large part of Mexico, killing about 13,000 people, according to official figures.
