المملكة: Al-Qassim adopts 55 local plant species to combat desertification and support sustainability

Detect Vegetation coverand combating desertification, which supports the objectives of the Green Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom’s 2030 vision to achieve environmental sustainability.
The approved list is varied to include trees and shrubs, in addition to perennial and annual herbs, in a relentless effort to establish a culture of growing local plants suitable for diverse environments and reduce land degradation.
The plant assortment includes indigenous species that constitute the identity of the environmental region, the most prominent of which are Salam, Samar, Al-Ghadha and Ramth, in addition to Al-Arfaj, Artemisia, Wild Sidr and Talh, which It is characterized by its high ability to adapt to climatic conditions.
Diverse plants
These plants come from ancient and multiple biological species, led by the leguminous, cedar and tarfay species, in addition to the grass, composite and eggplant species, which reflects the biological richness of the region.
The program based its choices on the terrain diversity that Qassim abounds with, as the plan covers valleys, plains and dunes. Sandy areas, all the way to kindergartens, internal marshes and mountains.
Through this step, the program seeks to lead a broad community movement, by involving the governmental, private and non-profit sectors in afforestation initiatives to ensure the sustainability of these natural resources.
The national effort focuses on raising awareness of wrong environmental practices and activating the culture of volunteerism, which transforms the citizen from a recipient of a service into an active partner in protecting and developing his local environment.
