Maduro’s arrest is an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent state

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed on Saturday its deep concern over reports that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were forcibly removed from their country during “aggressive actions” committed by the United States.
She said in a statement, “We call for an immediate clarification of this situation. Such actions, if they have actually occurred, represent an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent state, respect for which constitutes a major principle of international law.”
In a Foreign Ministry statement, Russia condemned the US military operation in Venezuela on Saturday, noting that there was no justification for the attack, which it considered to reflect the dominance of “intellectual hostility” over diplomacy.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “This morning, the United States carried out an armed aggression against Venezuela. It is very disturbing and deserves condemnation.”
She added, “Intellectual hostility trumped serious pragmatism.”
The Russian statement said, “We affirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people,” noting that there were no reports of Russian citizens being injured in the American strikes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry supported “the statement issued by the Venezuelan authorities and the leadership of Latin American countries regarding the urgent call to hold a meeting of the United Nations Security Council.”
