The United Nations expresses concern about developments in Venezuela and describes them as a dangerous precedent

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press statement: “Along with the situation in Venezuela, these developments set a dangerous precedent. The Secretary-General continues to stress the importance of full respect – by all – for international law, including United Nations Charter. The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the lack of respect for the rules of international law.”

Dujarric conveyed the Secretary-General’s call for all parties in Venezuela to engage in an inclusive dialogue with full respect for human rights and the rule of law.

It is reported that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was arrested after a massive US bombing of the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed concern about US “interference” in Venezuela. He urged everyone to exercise restraint and fully respect the United Nations Charter and international human rights law.

The United Nations Human Rights Office said on the X website that protecting the people of Venezuela is a top priority and must guide any further actions.
