41 traffic accidents since the beginning of the year… Dubai Police warns against crossing the red light

Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier General Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, warned of the danger of jumping the red light, stressing that this behavior is considered one of the most serious traffic violations that threaten the lives of drivers, their companions, and road users, because of the violent collisions it causes that often occur at intersections, and lead to serious injuries and deaths.

Bin Suwaidan said: “Traffic statistics recorded 41 traffic accidents since the beginning of the year, as a result of crossing a red light, resulting in the death of 4 people and the injury of 55 others with varying injuries, which reflects the magnitude of the risks resulting from not adhering to traffic signals and instructions regulating traffic movement.”

He pointed out that among the most prominent reasons for committing this violation are rushing to make a decision while driving, the desire to shorten time, being busy with other than the road by using the phone while driving, some drivers trying to cross the intersection in the last moments before the signal turns red, and misjudging distance and speed, stressing that a few seconds may be the cause of a tragic accident.

Bin Suwaidan called on drivers to strictly adhere to traffic lights, gradually reduce speed when approaching intersections, leave a sufficient safety distance, fully concentrate while driving, and not try to pass the signal when it turns yellow, if a safe stop is possible.

He stressed that Dubai Police is continuing its efforts to enhance traffic safety, by intensifying awareness and monitoring campaigns, and making use of smart technologies and traffic control systems to monitor dangerous violations, calling on all drivers to be responsible and traffic aware, and to make their safety and the safety of others a permanent priority while driving.
