The White House: Trump prefers diplomacy and is studying the possibility of buying Greenland


The White House said that the US President studied with his team the purchase of Greenland from Denmark, indicating that he favors diplomacy but does not rule out the possibility of military action.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said in a press briefing in response to a question about a possible American offer to buy the autonomous Danish territory, "This is something the President and his national security team are actively considering at this time".
She indicated that the Trump is currently looking into a potential deal.
She stressed that Trump believes that acquiring Greenland is in the national security interest of the United States.

Possible purchase deal

Leavitt said "President Trump believes that it is in the United States’ interest to deter Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region, so his team is currently looking into a possible purchase deal."
When asked why Trump did not rule out military action against a NATO member state, Levitt responded: "All options are always on the table for President Trump".

But she pointed out that "The president’s first choice is always diplomacy"

Rubio meets with the Danes

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that he intends to meet with Danish officials next week, after Copenhagen requested a meeting with him to discuss Trump’s continued threat to control the island of Greenland.
Rubio told reporters: "I will meet them next week".
