A “smart first aid box” to provide correct medical information to residents and visitors of Dubai

The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services revealed a new innovative project that it is currently working on, which aims to employ artificial intelligence techniques to enhance community awareness of first aid, through interactive digital platforms and applications that allow the public to obtain emergency information and instructions accurately and quickly, keeping pace with digital transformation and enhancing the speed of access to correct medical information at critical moments.

Dubai Ambulance explained to Emirates Today that the project includes launching the concept of a “smart first aid box,” which will be a digital platform and smart application for residents and visitors of Dubai, designed to provide integrated awareness content that enhances health prevention and enables individuals to deal with emergency cases before ambulance teams arrive, thus contributing to reducing health risks and enhancing public safety.

The Executive Director of the Dubai Ambulance Services Corporation, Mishal Abdul Karim Julfar, said that the Corporation attaches great importance to community awareness, as it considers providing free awareness services in the field of first aid to be an essential part of its role in enhancing community safety, in addition to its tasks in rapid response to emergency situations.

Julfar added in special statements to Emirates Today: “We are currently working at (Dubai Ambulance) on an innovative project using artificial intelligence, so that anyone can obtain the correct information for first aid immediately. The idea of the project is to transform the traditional first aid box into a (smart first aid box), whose role is not limited to the presence of tools, but rather interacts with the user and provides him with the necessary instructions at any time.”

He explained that the project relies on an interactive platform and a smart application similar to the smart application platforms “GBT Chat” and others, where the user can enter the question or situation he is facing, so that the correct steps for first aid are shown to him in a simplified and smooth formulation, with the ability to watch explanatory videos or interact with the digital representation that explains the procedures step by step.

He explained that the application will provide practical examples on how to deal with all medical cases in a correct manner, in addition to special instructions for dealing with various emergency situations at home or in the workplace, with a focus on quick action before ambulance teams arrive.

Julfar stressed that first aid standards are stable globally, and are updated approximately every five years, which allows providing accurate and unified awareness content, stressing that “part of our role is awareness, and the other part is prevention, so we are not satisfied with providing information only, but we are keen to make it effective and easy to access for all segments of society.”

He pointed out that Dubai Ambulance’s experiences in countries such as the United States have shown that community awareness is an integral part of the ambulance system, and that investing in artificial intelligence enables Dubai to keep pace with international best practices and achieve the highest standards of public safety.

He pointed to the challenges associated with the diversity of the population in Dubai, which includes more than 200 nationalities, saying: “The biggest challenge is delivering information in a way that is understandable to all cultures and languages, so we are working to provide content in several languages and use visual and audio technologies that facilitate the learning and interaction process.”

He added that the Foundation will seek to integrate the project with educational institutions and companies, so that schools, universities and workplaces can use the smart box and the application to train their employees and students on first aid on an ongoing basis, stressing that practical and direct awareness helps consolidate and preserve information among the public.

He stressed that this new project reflects the vision of “Dubai Ambulance” in integrating innovation and modern technology with emergency services, stressing that the ultimate goal is to deliver awareness to every individual in society, and to enhance preventive safety in cooperation with government agencies, the private sector and society, to ensure a safer and healthier environment for all.
