Sharif Al Olama: We focus on evaluating available technologies to increase energy efficiency in large data centers

ABU DHABI, 14 JANUARY / WAM / His Excellency Engineer Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, confirmed that the activities of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 are witnessing a wide participation and attendance of major international companies that are showcasing the latest technologies and innovative solutions in the fields of renewable energy.

The scientists said in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is currently focusing on exploring and evaluating available technologies to raise the efficiency of energy consumption in large data centers.

He added that the Ministry expects to achieve good savings in energy consumption rates within data centers, which will have a direct positive impact on the energy sector in the country, especially in light of the continuous expansion in establishing this type of centers to support the digital economy and artificial intelligence.

He explained that the Ministry is working in cooperation with the Artificial Intelligence Council in the country to develop mechanisms and standards for classifying large data centers, including energy efficiency standards, which contributes to enhancing sustainability and achieving optimal use of resources.

He pointed out the importance of raising the efficiency of large data centers that witness variations in energy consumption as a result of the challenges associated with the cooling systems used in them.

The scientists pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launched the Global Alliance for Energy Efficiency, which includes more than 40 countries, to be the first international platform of its kind that brings together governments, the private sector and international organizations under one umbrella, with the aim of doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency globally to more than 4% annually until 2030, in line with international climate commitments and enhancing collective action.

He added that the alliance constitutes a practical platform for exchanging experiences and developing innovative solutions and gives countries the opportunity to benefit from the pioneering UAE experience in reducing consumption and enhancing energy efficiency, stressing that the UAE’s leadership of this alliance strengthens its position as a leading and inspiring country globally and provides an attractive environment for international partnerships and investments in the sustainable energy sector.
