The start of the carp season until next February 10

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society, and member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, stated that the Ramadan season, which runs from January 15 to February 10, is characterized by extreme cold and low temperatures. It is a season that comes after Al-Murabaniyah, and its duration is 26 days, during which camels’ noses bleed, due to the freezing of irrigation water due to the extreme cold in the morning.

Al-Jarwan explained to “Emirates Today” that Shabat is considered colder than Al-Murabaniyah, especially the first half of it, as minimum temperatures record the lowest levels during the year, especially if it is accompanied by northern winter winds.

He explained that “Shabat” in Syriac means beating with a whip, due to the intensity of the wind blowing. In most calendars in the Arabian Peninsula, the Shabat season begins from January 15 and extends to February 10, while in the deserts of Iraq and the Levant it begins from February 1 to the end of February, and the Shabat season ends as the cold begins to decline throughout the Arabian Peninsula, while it is delayed in the deserts of Iraq and the Levant.
He pointed out that the coldness of the air in Shabat is different from that in Al-Murabbaniyah, as in Al-Murabbaniyah the cold permeates the ground, penetrates the air, and is hidden in the humidity of the air, so the inside of the houses becomes colder than the outside of the houses.
As for Shabat, there is coldness in the air, and it becomes stronger with the coldness of the winds that are active and blowing repeatedly, and therefore the outside of the houses becomes colder than the inside of the houses.

He pointed out that it is a heritage heritage in the Arabian Gulf:
Al-Murabbaniyya says to the sheep and advises him: “You see if you have passed or been harmed, but you should be careful with them. You should eat those whose fuel is fiber, and eat them with dawif, and avoid those who eat dates and their food is brown.”
Dweif or Dweifa is a popular food like porridge made of flour, water and ghee. Samar wood is famous for its hardness and the strength of its fire, while the fire of fiber is not strong and is quickly extinguished. This is because the response of the Murabbaniyah was not as strong as that of the Shabat.
It is also said, “The cold of the sheep makes the horse cry.” It is a type of fox during the Shabbot season, when the speed and volatility of the wind increases, as it is said, “February is the clinking of the bilban.”

He mentioned that the beginning of the Shabat is called (Al-Azraq) and its time is the rising of the star (Al-Na`im) due to its extreme cold and the blueness of the hands therein due to the extreme cold, as well as the blueness of the sky from the cold and its absence of clouds due to the northern blowing.

It is said, “When the heavens rise, the livestock will turn white from the perpetual frost.” Likewise, the beginning of the month of Shabat is the time of “the cold of Al-Bateen,” which is the middle of the cold and its belly, and is characterized by the peak of the cold weather, due to the influence of cold winds from the Arctic regions across Europe and Central Asia. Sometimes frost occurs as water freezes, during which the stars of “Al-Bateen” appear at the beginning of the night (evening time) in the middle of the sky above the observer’s head.
“Brain cold” is said to make camels’ noses or mouths bleed due to its severity, especially in the early morning hours when they lick extremely cold or freezing water due to the severity of the cold in open areas and the desert.
