“Dubai Roads” announces the arrival of 250 buses, including electric and conforming to specifications

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai announced the arrival of the first batch of new buses, numbering 250 buses, as part of a contract that includes the purchase of 735 buses of various sizes, conforming to European specifications for low carbon emissions, “Euro 6”, including 40 electric buses, which are the largest and first of their kind in the country. The supply of buses will be completed during the current year 2026.
The Zhongtong electric bus is the first bus to be operated on urban lines in Dubai, and was specifically designed to suit the operational conditions in the emirate, as it has an operational range of up to 280 kilometers on a single recharge, which enables it to complete its daily trips without the need to return to accommodation stations to recharge.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, said that the next phase will witness a gradual increase in the number of electric buses operating in the emirate, in line with national trends to reduce the carbon footprint, achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and support the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. These efforts also support the Roads and Transport Authority’s strategy (zero-emission public transportation in Dubai 2050), which aims to convert all buses, taxis and limousines to Zero emissions, through which the Authority seeks to convert 100% of public transportation buses to electric and hydrogen buses by 2050.
