In an opinion poll conducted by “Al-Youm” newspaper at the gold exhibition as part of the Jeddah Season activities in the “Superdome”, visitors’ opinions varied between those who see gold as an adornment inherent in life, and those who consider it a safe container for storing money, while family memories and gifts of high moral value were present in the participants’ conversations.

This poll reflects the diversity of society’s view of gold between it being an adornment linked to identity and memories, and a safe haven for investment and preserving value, at a time when exhibitions continue. The specialty attracts various groups, not only to buy, but to discover the world of gold in all its economic and social dimensions.

Shop and see

Lamia Al Dhaheri, who came to the exhibition with her family, said that her visit aimed to shop and see the largest concentration of gold in Jeddah.

She added that the prices – from her point of view – did not differ much from the prices of traditional stores, noting that she did not notice a noticeable difference.

She indicated that her interest in examining one of the pieces stemmed from her love for gold and her keenness to acquire it from reliable sources, explaining that she deals with specific stores and likes to ensure the purity of the gold and its components.

She confirmed that the result of the examination reassured her, It turned out that the piece contained only a small percentage of silver, without the presence of worthless metals, which strengthened her confidence in the supply.

Childhood Memories

Al Dhaheri recalled childhood memories, saying that gold had been present in her life since childhood, as her parents used to decorate their daughters with bangers and various ornaments, considering that gold is an adornment and a treasure at the same time, and that a woman’s love for gold is a natural nature.

She indicated that she tends To acquire diamonds and bullion, but she considers that prices are currently rising, and despite that, she will acquire gold.

Historical experience

Abdullah Matbouli said that the exhibition provided him and his family with a real opportunity to see a wide variety of gold jewelry, reviewing his long experience with gold.

He added that more than 40 years ago, he bought a kilo of gold for about 40 thousand riyals, while its price today exceeded half a million riyals, which, according to his description, reflects the huge difference in value.

He pointed out that gold is a suitable option for saving money and investing, considering that its decline is not possible in the long term, calling on those who have the ability to invest in it or in silver as an alternative.

He stated that he took advantage of his visit to the exhibition to buy a gift for his wife on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of A year after their marriage, he described the gift as a surprise that carries great moral value.

Rising prices

Amir Naji, who attended with his family, said that gold prices are witnessing a continuous rise with time.

He explained that the price of a gram at the beginning of his marriage in 2011 was equivalent to about 150 riyals, while today it has exceeded 450 riyals, which means that it has doubled four to five times in about 15 years, stressing that his purchases focus on wearing gold and not acquiring bullion.

The New Generation

Suhaila Amin Khoj, a mathematics teacher, said that her visit to the exhibition came with the motive of learning about what is new, especially with what I heard about his expanding reputation and the participation of factories and stores from various regions of the Kingdom, especially well-known stores in Riyadh and Al-Ahsa.

She added that she grew up in a culture that valued gold as the most precious possession, stressing that she does not prefer accessories, and believes that gold has returned to be the first choice even for the new generation.

She indicated that she acquires bullion for the purpose of saving, in addition to jewelry for decoration, and Khoj recalled the most expensive gift she received in her life, which is an antique piece given to her by her mother – may God have mercy on her – and it is more than 200 years old, stressing that she keeps it because of the great historical and moral value it carries.

Regarding the preference for calibers, she explained that 24 and 21 calibers remain the best in terms of value, despite the variety of caliber shapes. 18, which she considers to be less valuable compared to higher calibers, stressing that her purchasing choices are subject to budget, shape, and purpose.
