Egypt produces 20 million mobile phones annually

The competent authorities in Egypt announced the end of the exceptional decision granting customs exemption for mobile phone devices imported with those coming from abroad.
A joint statement issued by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Customs Authority revealed that the decision will come into effect as of tomorrow, Wednesday, indicating that this step comes after Cairo achieved a qualitative leap in the mobile phone industry, within the framework of its strategy aimed at becoming a leading regional and global platform in the technology sector.
The Egyptian market includes about 15 international companies specialized in manufacturing mobile phones, and they produce about 20 million mobile phones annually, according to the highest international quality standards, according to the statement reported by Egyptian media.
Regarding the exemption for mobile phone devices for Egyptians residing abroad, the statement explained that the exemption decision is still valid for Egyptians and tourists for a period of 90 days according to the conditions that were previously announced.
The statement indicated that the decision contributed to providing 10,000 job opportunities for Egyptian youth, stressing that taxes and fees imposed on mobile devices imported from abroad can be paid via the “Telephone” application, in addition to digital payment methods available through banks and electronic wallets, with a time limit of up to 90 days from the date of first activation, to reconcile the devices’ conditions before any regulatory measures are taken, and the possibility of paying these taxes and fees in installments will be made available during the coming period.
