Korea’s LIG Nex1 plans to establish a local defense industry in partnership with the UAE

ABU DHABI, January 20, 2019 (WAM) – Lee Gun-hyuk, the newly appointed President of the Middle East and North Africa region at LIG Nex1, announced on the sidelines of the UMEX exhibition that the company plans to establish a local defense industry in partnership with the UAE, with the aim of strengthening national defense capabilities and supporting the trend towards self-sufficiency in local production within the country.
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, he stressed that LIG Nex1’s participation in the UMEX exhibition is of great importance as a strategic platform for deepening cooperation and expanding the horizons of long-term industrial partnership with the UAE.
He explained that LIG Nex1 has a close cooperation relationship with the UAE that extends for more than 15 years, during which the company worked to implement a group of partnerships and joint development efforts, focusing primarily on advanced guidance systems.
He added: Based on this solid base, today we look forward to expanding the scope of our cooperation to include broader areas in the defense sector and advanced technologies, and these efforts represent tangible progress in the path of the defense partnership between the two countries.
LIG Nex1 aims to strengthen its partnership with the defense sector in the UAE by expanding areas of cooperation in joint development, local production, and capacity development, which contributes to achieving sustainable growth and deepening industrial cooperation with local partners.
Lee added: Through this partnership, we seek to contribute to the development of the defense industry system in the UAE, by enhancing technical and research cooperation, and exploring opportunities in the fields of safety and advanced technologies alongside local partners.
