The Federal National Council adopts a number of recommendations on the topic of “protecting the family, its concept and entity”

The Federal National Council, headed by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Council, and in the presence of the Minister of Family, Sanaa bint Mohammed Suhail, discussed the topic of “Protecting the Family, Its Concept, and Its Entity,” during its fourth session of the third regular session of the eighteenth legislative term, which was held today in Zayed Hall at the Council’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Saqr Ghobash began the deliberations by emphasizing that the declaration of 2026 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” as the Year of the Family, constitutes an inspiring national message that places the family at the top of priorities as the first incubator of values ​​and identity and the basic pillar of social cohesion, stressing that the Council is a strategic partner of the government in bearing responsibility for the success of this vision, and that today’s discussions aim to come up with recommendations that support this national trend.

Following extensive discussions that included the challenges affecting family formation, threats to family security, and the impact of social changes, the Council adopted a number of important recommendations that it decided to refer to the Social Affairs, Labor, Population and Human Resources Committee to reformulate them in light of the members’ interventions.

The Council’s discussions were based on a comprehensive report prepared by the Social Affairs, Labour, Population and Human Resources Committee, the summary of which the Council approved before commencing the discussion. The report explained that the Committee held a series of meetings since the issue was referred to it in the session of December 4, 2024, and reviewed studies, research papers, and the results of interviews with experts and specialists. It also studied data and information received from the concerned authorities represented by the Ministry of Family, the Ministry of Community Empowerment, the Ministry of Justice, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship. Customs and port security.

The Council agreed to refer a draft federal law received from the government regarding combating communicable diseases to the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee to study it and prepare a report on it. The session also witnessed the asking of several parliamentary questions that focused on the file of “public housing that has exceeded its intended lifespan” and “social support for people of determination.”
