The Department of Electronic and Cybercrimes in the General Department of Criminal Investigations and Investigations in Dubai Police has warned against exploiting Internet services and social networking sites to insult others with insulting phrases that make them an object of contempt, noting that circulating these phrases exposes the perpetrator to being subject to legal liability.

She explained that Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021 regarding combating rumors and electronic crimes punishes insulting expressions on the Internet and social media sites, through Article 43, which states in its first clause: “Anyone who insults another person or attributes to him an incident that would make him subject to punishment or punishment shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine of no less than 250 thousand dirhams and no more than 500 thousand dirhams, or one of these two penalties.” Contempt by others, by using an information network, an information technology means, or an information system.”

The Department of Electronic and Cybercrimes indicated that what is published on the Internet and social networking sites is considered subject to legal accountability, and is considered digital evidence whose owner will be held accountable according to the law, stressing that the use of the Internet and social networking sites must be within the framework of mutual respect and commitment to societal values, customs and traditions.
