Iraq.. The “coordination framework” nominates Nouri al-Maliki for the position of Prime Minister

The coordination framework in Iraq decided, this evening, Saturday, by a majority, to nominate Nouri al-Maliki to form the new Iraqi government.

A statement by the Coordination Framework via the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated, “Based on national responsibility, and in the interest of completing constitutional entitlements within a context that preserves the stability of the country and strengthens the path of the state, the Coordination Framework held an expanded meeting of its leaders in the office of the head of the Badr Organization, Hadi Al-Amiri, today.” The statement added, “After an in-depth and extensive discussion, the coordinating framework decided by majority to nominate Nouri Kamel al-Maliki for the position of Prime Minister.”

The statement explained that Al-Maliki will be “a candidate for the largest parliamentary bloc, based on his political and administrative experience and his role in running the state.”

The coordination framework affirmed its full commitment to the constitutional path, and its keenness to work with all national forces to form a strong and effective government capable of facing challenges, providing services, and protecting Iraq’s security and unity. The framework also called on the House of Representatives to “hold its session dedicated to electing the President of the Republic in accordance with the constitutional timings.”
