Dubai Municipality launches a global challenge to build a residential villa using robotic construction systems

Dubai Municipality announced the launch of a global challenge to build an integrated residential villa using robotic construction systems, within a local and global alliance that includes more than 25 companies specialized in advanced technology, in addition to local and international universities and research centers, led by Dubai Municipality, in a qualitative step that reflects the proactive approach of the Emirate of Dubai in designing the future of cities.

This project is a global precedent that represents a practical model for how the building and construction sector can move from traditional models to a smart system that is more productive, sustainable and high-quality, keeping pace with accelerating global transformations, and strengthens Dubai’s position as a city that not only embraces the future, but also works to test and develop it and export its models to the world.

This announcement came during the activation of the Center for Innovations and Research in Building and Construction (04 ConTech Valley) in partnership with Expo City Dubai, in implementation of the recently signed agreement aiming to establish the Center for Innovations and Research in Building and Construction Materials, Systems and Technologies within Expo City Dubai, to support new generation technologies in building, urban development and future city systems, within the framework of the Dubai Municipality Strategy for Building and Construction Technology, which aims to redefine the sector and transform it into a sector based on innovation and integration between technology, regulation and effective partnerships with the private sector, including It contributes to raising the efficiency of projects, reducing dependence on labor, and achieving the highest standards of sustainability.

On this occasion, the Director General of Dubai Municipality, Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, said that Dubai is on a clear path towards reshaping the future of the building and construction sector, by adopting advanced technologies that transform this sector into a smart, flexible, and more sustainable system, stressing that Dubai Municipality does not deal with technology as a future option, but rather as a present tool to accelerate development, improve the quality of life, and enhance the competitiveness of the economy.

Marwan bin Ghalita added that the launch of the (04 ConTech Valley) center, the activation of the business group for building and construction technology companies, in addition to the announcement of the challenge of building the first residential villa in the world using robotic construction systems, reflects Dubai Municipality’s approach to linking innovation with practical application, and transforming advanced ideas into implementable solutions and commercial expansion.

He said: “In Dubai, we are working to build an integrated system in which legislation is a catalyst for responsible innovation, partnerships are a lever for development, and technology is a major driver for future cities. Through these initiatives, we are consolidating Dubai’s position as a global center for experimenting, developing and exporting smart and sustainable building and construction technologies.”

The project will be implemented using robots in partnership with Zacua Ventures and Würth Group, with the participation of leading international companies in construction robotics, along with local contractors and engineering companies, in an applied model that reflects Dubai’s ability to employ global partnerships to serve its long-term development goals.

Dubai Municipality also launched, in cooperation with the “Zakua Global Investment Fund” based in San Francisco in the United States of America; The “Global Building and Construction Technology Report” indicates the global acceleration in the adoption of building technology, as expectations indicate that the volume of investments in building technology will reach more than $30 billion by 2033, with a growth of 17.5% annually.

The report indicated that the labor shortage is the most prominent challenge facing the construction market, which stimulates investment in technology through new construction techniques such as building with robotics and 3D printing. The report provided insights into the most important advanced technology technologies that the construction sector is focusing on.

On the sidelines of the event, Dubai Municipality, in cooperation with Dubai Chambers, announced the launch of the Business Group for Building and Construction Technology Companies (ConTech Group), to form an organized institutional framework that includes government agencies, developers, contractors, technology providers, investors, and researchers, with the aim of building an integrated system that promotes responsible innovation, improves the efficiency of projects, and raises the quality of urban outcomes.

As part of supporting this system, Dubai Municipality concluded three strategic agreements with “Zaqua Ventures”, “Dubai Future Neighborhood Fund”, and “The Lab Ventures”, to build a sustainable path for innovation in the construction sector, support emerging companies, link them to projects and regulatory bodies, enhance research and development and investment in future technologies, and attract construction technology companies from around the world to Dubai.

Dubai Municipality, in cooperation with Sobha Real Estate Company, also launched the 70-70 Strategy for the year 2030, which aims to manufacture 70% of buildings within factories, and automate 70% of the operations of these factories, which contributes to raising quality, accelerating achievement, and enhancing sustainability in the construction sector.

During a dialogue session on the building and construction sector system, partners in the government and private sectors, along with emerging technology companies, discussed the opportunities and challenges facing the sector while drawing a road map for building technology through Dubai Municipality’s leadership of the building and construction strategy.

During the event, Dubai Municipality announced that it had granted China State Contracting Company accreditation for the Modular Construction System, marking the beginning of a new breakthrough in smart building standards and practices in Dubai.

Amana will also work to adopt a modular building system to create shared work spaces for young people in public facilities, providing a flexible and integrated work environment.
