Dubai Police warns of fraud under the name “remote work”

Dubai Police has warned of a fraudulent method that has increased recently, which relies on deceiving victims of the existence of part-time remote work opportunities, in which fraudsters exploit the victims’ desire to improve their income, through fake job offers.
She explained, as part of the “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, that this type of fraud usually begins with tempting messages that include promises of quick income in exchange for simple tasks that can be performed from home, before the victim is asked to transfer sums of money under the pretext of fees for registering or activating accounts, or sharing personal and banking data, and in some cases the victims’ bank accounts are exploited in suspicious operations without their knowledge.
She confirmed that the aim of these criminal methods is to seize money, steal personal data, or use bank accounts to carry out financial crimes.
She called for verifying the credibility of any entity offering remote work opportunities, and not sharing any personal or banking information with unreliable parties. She also stressed the importance of not transferring any sums of money in exchange for obtaining a job, stressing that real professional entities do not ask for recruitment fees.
Dubai Police renewed its call to report any fraudulent attempts via the “eCrime” platform or by calling 901 for non-emergency cases, stressing its continued efforts to monitor these criminal methods and enhance community awareness to protect individuals from falling victim to these crimes.
She stressed that digital vigilance and awareness, and verification before interacting with any suspicious offers, represent the first line of defense against electronic fraud crimes, noting that community cooperation is an essential element in maintaining community security and stability.
