Climate change and environment" Announces the slogan of the 29th National Environment Day "A sustainable future starts with the family"

“Climate Change and Environment” announces the slogan of the 29th National Environment Day: “A sustainable future begins with the family.”

Dubai, February 4, 2026 – The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced today the official slogan for National Environment Day in its twenty-ninth edition in 2026, which is “The sustainable future begins with the family.”

This announcement comes within the framework of alignment with the directives of the wise leadership to adopt the year 2026 as the “Year of the Family,” and in confirmation of the pivotal role of the societal fabric in supporting national trends towards development and environmental and climate sustainability.

This year’s slogan aims to consolidate the concept of societal sustainability, by enhancing the role of the family as a strategic partner in achieving the country’s environmental and climate goals, as it is the first incubator of values and the main driver of changing consumption patterns and behavior towards natural resources, in a way that serves the UAE’s strategy for climate neutrality 2050.

Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, confirmed that the National Environment Day slogan this year represents a practical translation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” who placed the family at the heart of major development equations by declaring the year 2026 as the “Year of the Family,” noting that this approach derives its value essence from the immortal legacy of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al. Nahyan, may God rest his soul, who established sustainability as an inherited way of life, before it was international obligations.

She said that climate and environmental action does not start from closed halls, but rather from homes, as major environmental decisions are in fact the sum of the small decisions that families take daily, and that every conscious behavior to rationalize consumption, preserve a blessing, or plant a plant within the borders of the home, may seem like a simple act on the surface, but its echo resonates positively throughout our planet, contributing to reducing emissions and protecting resources, adding: “This is our real bet on the awareness of current and future generations to lead a new phase of Sustainability because the family has become the strategic partner in the sustainability equation.”

She added: “The Ministry’s role today goes beyond formulating policies and legislation, to move to community empowerment, as we work to provide families with the necessary cognitive and practical tools, to give them the behaviors and skills that qualify them to play their pivotal role as a strategic partner in achieving climate neutrality, preserving the environment, and developing nature.”

Her Excellency concluded by calling on all government agencies, private sector institutions, and civil society components to unite efforts and adopt the slogan “The sustainable future begins with the family,” to establish an institutional and societal culture that supports this trend, to present to the world an inspiring Emirati model that proves that social cohesion and environmental awareness are two sides of the same coin that guarantees the nation’s prosperity and the sustainability of its resources.

The Ministry confirmed that the new slogan for National Environment Day derives its essence from the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, who preceded the world in formulating the concept of sustainability as an inherent value and innate behavior based on respect for nature and preserving the rights of future generations, considering that protecting the environment is not a luxury, but rather a matter of destiny and survival.

The concept of National Environment Day this year comes to form a link with the forward-looking vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, who presented to the world a unique Emirati model in environmental and climate development work, as the country achieved many successes and achievements that crossed the borders of the Emirates and contributed to global development, environmental and climate work and creating a sustainable future for many peoples of the world, which established its global leadership in this field based on To a cohesive internal front made up of the family and the individual.

In conjunction with National Environment Day, the Ministry launched the “Practical Guide to Sustainable Living,” which is a comprehensive practical reference directed to families in the country. It is designed to be an innovative home tool towards a green future. It provides a detailed roadmap and practical and behavioral advice covering seven life axes, including food consumption, energy and water, dealing with waste and how to dispose of it, home agriculture, lifestyle modification, sustainable mobility, and living in a healthy environment.

The Ministry provided the guide in Arabic and English, to ensure comprehensive awareness and for the message to reach all components of the family and society, as the public can download the digital version directly through the following links.

It is worth noting that the environmental behaviors called for by “National Environment Day” are not new concepts to Emirati society, but rather a restoration of the authentic cultural values that our fathers and grandfathers lived by. The Emirati home in the past provided an ideal model of sustainability, where waste was not present in their dictionary. Rather, they used every resource with complete efficiency, starting from the palm tree, which they used every part of, all the way to preserving water and food as a blessing.

Today’s National Environment Day aims to revive this cultural heritage and present it in a modern form, so that preserving the environment becomes an integral part of the national identity of every family living in the Emirates.

The Ministry explained that National Environment Day this year is not just a passing occasion, but rather a starting point for a “comprehensive environmental season” that will last for 4 months, until the fifth of next June, which coincides with “World Environment Day.”

This season’s agenda includes a variety of interactive activities and field initiatives designed to consolidate sustainable practices in daily life. Initiatives and events include the “Emirati Sustainable Family Challenge,” “A Tree for Every Family,” “Waste-Free Vacation,” and other initiatives.

The Ministry will be keen to involve families and community members in activities aimed at providing them with awareness, skills and sustainable life behaviours.

The Ministry called on members of society to actively participate in these activities, the details of which will be announced successively during the coming period. It also urged the public to interact positively with the parallel programs and events organized by government and local agencies and private sector institutions in all emirates of the country, so that environmental work becomes a participatory national effort in which roles are integrated to achieve the desired goals.
