The UN Security Council condemns a terrorist attack targeting a mosque in the Pakistani capital

The UN Security Council strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a mosque in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on February 6, killing at least 32 people and wounding 92 others.
In a statement issued by its members today, Friday, the Council described the attack, for which ISIS claimed responsibility, as a “cowardly and heinous” act, and expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the government and people of Pakistan, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
He stressed that terrorism in all its forms represents one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, stressing the need to hold the perpetrators, organizers and financiers of this attack accountable and bring them to justice.
The statement called on all countries to fully cooperate with the Pakistani authorities to ensure that perpetrators do not escape punishment, in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
He stressed that any terrorist act is an unjustified crime, regardless of its motives or the party behind it, stressing the importance of countries continuing their efforts to combat terrorism by all legitimate means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law, including international human rights law and international humanitarian law.
