Inauguration "Sharjah Journal of Archaeological Studies"

Sharjah, February 16, 2017 – The Sharjah Archeology Authority today launched, at a ceremony held at its headquarters, the “Sharjah Journal of Archaeological Studies”, a peer-reviewed scientific journal concerned with publishing specialized research in the fields of archaeology and tangible cultural heritage, in a step that reflects its commitment to supporting the scientific and knowledge movement and consolidating Sharjah’s position as a pioneering regional center in archaeological research and cultural studies, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

His Excellency Issa Yousef, Director General of the Sharjah Archeology Authority, Dr. Sabah Aboud Jassim, Advisor to the Authority, and Dr. Saeed bin Yarouf Al Naqbi, Director of the Authority, participated in a dialogue session that discussed the importance of launching the “Sharjah Journal of Archaeological Studies” and its role in supporting the scientific and cognitive movement and anticipating its future prospects in serving archaeological research and promoting specialized studies.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Aisha Ahmed Bushalibi, Director of the University of Al Dhaid, His Excellency Salem Omar Salem, Director of the Regional Office of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in the UAE, and Nasser Al Darmaki, Deputy Director of the ICCROM Regional Center in Sharjah, along with delegations from the universities of Sharjah, Khor Fakkan, and Al Dhaid, and a number of officials, academics, researchers, and specialists in the fields of antiquities and cultural heritage.

The magazine is available in two printed and electronic versions and specializes in publishing multidisciplinary research that deals with the history of the Arabian Peninsula and its coasts from prehistoric times through the historical and Islamic periods to the modern period within a scientific framework that links local studies to their regional and global cultural contexts.

The magazine opens the horizons of scientific comparison with geographically and culturally connected regions such as the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf, and the Indian Ocean, thus enhancing an integrated understanding of civilizations and historical interactions in the region.

His Excellency Issa Yousef stressed that the launch of the magazine is the result of the continuous support and care given by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the path of science and culture and his keenness to consolidate Sharjah’s position as a center for knowledge and research production in the region.

For his part, Dr. Sabah Abboud Jassim said that the “Sharjah Journal of Archaeological Studies” is a qualitative scientific addition that will contribute to enriching the specialized academic library through the peer-reviewed research and studies it will provide that address archaeological topics using solid scientific methodologies, stressing that the journal will constitute an important reference for researchers and those interested in this field.

For his part, Dr. Saeed bin Yarouf Al Naqbi said that the magazine contributes to documenting the cultural heritage of the region, enhancing academic studies related to it, and opening wide horizons for researchers to publish their scientific products according to the highest standards of quality and arbitration, thus enhancing Sharjah’s position as a scientific and knowledge center in the field of archaeological studies.
