The Heritage Authority found more than 1,700 antiquities in the Al-Jahfa archaeological miqat
Ended Heritage Authority The first season of surveying and documentation work in Al-Jahfa Miqat, in cooperation with the British University of Exeter, revealed more than 1,700 antiquities, including pottery, glass, stone pieces, shells, artifacts, and other antiquities that confirmed the importance of the place located on the Egyptian Hajj route.
The finds revealed various fragments that were used in various aspects of life, such as: shells, beads, and metals, and six were also found. Of the pottery kilns, as well as a water canal that was likely to serve pilgrims and travelers at this site, in addition to the discovery of 13 tombstones, including those dating back to the Umayyad and Abbasid eras.
Civilizational Depth
The works showed that some of the finds came from different regions such as: the Levant, Egypt, and Abyssinia, which indicates the influx of pilgrims from all over the world to this Miqat.
The Al-Juhfah Miqat is located It is located 187 kilometers northwest of Mecca. It is one of the fixed timings since the early Islamic period. This meeqat was linked to the passage of the Prophet during his migration. Historical sources also indicate that the meeqat flourished in the second century AH with water facilities and shops to serve the guests of God. The Holy City and Medina, in addition to accelerating the pace of scientific research in research and exploration work, providing new data on the cultural depth of the Kingdom, and revealing the historical and cultural sequence of these sites, using the best advanced technologies in surveying, documentation, diagnosis, and studying and analyzing the finds.
